Carla Maria Ringleb
Carla Maria Ringleb (*1992, Hanover) is a stage and costume designer and visual artist.
In her artistic practice, she explores body and spatial awareness. She investigates how supposedly secure concepts of perception can be shaken and how fluid and fragile our perception is – dependent on perspective. She enjoys working with quotes and fragments to encourage active engagement from viewers. Intuition and chance play a central role in her creative process.
Her drawings move between reality and the surreal, inviting viewers to switch between two- and three-dimensional levels of perception and to seek orientation. The attempt to understand and categorize the distorted proportions is in dialogue with the resulting disorientation. In her compositions, Carla Maria Ringleb frequently integrates artifacts and quoted elements, thus creating a level of identification.
After studying scenography, she worked at theaters throughout Germany, including as a permanent assistant at Theater Bremen. She realized her own stage and costume designs at municipal and state theaters, as well as for independent performance and music projects. She works in her studio in Hanover, where she also operates the project space "Falte" with other artists.
