Pia Sispela

In my artistic, multimedia practice, with a focus on painting, printmaking, and photography, I work instinctively and process-oriented, with various themes gradually overlapping. The blank canvas serves me to visualize my inner world and to process external events; associations that merge into a complete picture through diverse impressions and references.

My works contain approaches critical of society and identity, often with satirical elements, addressing utopian ideas of a better world or the harsh reality of global inequalities in late capitalism. I integrate symbolic allusions as well as philosophical, sociological, ecological, and geopolitical questions into my creative process and focus on structure, depth, and varying principles of order, depending on the genre of the image.

My goal is to represent the complexity of the world and to encourage viewers to reflect and form subjective associations. I create a fusion of different art forms to engage with truth in the postmodern age and the possibility of an authentic life in late capitalism. My works aim to allow for diverse interpretations and hypotheses.
